(MOUNT LAUREL, NEW JERSEY – June 29, 2026) Remember The Girls, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for females affected by X-linked conditions, applauds the introduction of S4511, legislation sponsored by Senator Troy Singleton that would expand New Jersey’s infertility coverage law to include individuals who require assisted reproductive technology to prevent the transmission of a severely disabling or life-threatening monogenic disorder to their children.

The bill would amend New Jersey’s existing infertility coverage statute to recognize that some individuals require IVF and related reproductive technologies not because they are unable to become pregnant, but because they are at risk of passing on a serious genetic disease.

“For too long, carriers of devastating genetic conditions have been left out of the conversation,” said Taylor Kane, founder and executive director of Remember The Girls. “These individuals are often told they are not ‘infertile’ because they may be physically able to conceive. But for many, conceiving without medical intervention means risking the transmission of a serious or life-threatening disease to their child. This bill recognizes that preventing the inheritance of a devastating genetic condition is a legitimate and medically necessary reason to access assisted reproductive technology.”

Kane, whose father died from adrenoleukodystrophy, or ALD, and who is herself a carrier of the condition, has long advocated for equitable access to reproductive options for carriers of genetic diseases.

“This issue is deeply personal to me,” Kane said. “No one should be forced to choose between risking the health of their future child and paying tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket for IVF and genetic testing. Families affected by genetic disease deserve the same opportunity to build healthy families as anyone else.”

Remember The Girls thanks Senator Singleton and his office for their leadership in advancing this important legislation and for recognizing the needs of carriers and families affected by serious monogenic disorders.

If enacted, S4511 would position New Jersey as a national leader in fertility coverage equity and genetic disease prevention.
